Clarity Equine Nutrition services all areas of equine nutrition development whether for the individual horse owner, breeding farm manager, Olympic athlete, veterinary practice, or supplement company. Dr. Thunes specializes in creating individual feeding programs for a wide range of horses including high performance athletes, lactating mares, senior equines, and horses afflicted with metabolic or other physiological diseases such as EPM, PPID, insulin resistances, or muscle myopathies.
Due to her expansive and up-to-date knowledge of equine nutritional concerns and solutions, Dr. Thunes is often called on for professional collaborative consultation by veterinarians and feed and supplement product developers. Her problem solving and critical thinking skills combined with her friendly, professional attitude make her uniquely qualified to work within a team environment as a consulting nutritionist on a complex veterinary care feeding program or within a product development group.
Dr. Thunes is a highly regarded public speaker, clinician, and workshop leader on all topics related to equine nutrition. Her enthusiasm for the horse owner’s every day feeding concerns stem directly from her 35+ years as a horse owner, making her relatable and empathetic to her audience’s position. Her philosophy that nutrition is the foundation of a horse’s overall well-being resonates with audiences who are eager to learn more about how they can improve their horse’s health through better nutrition.
DR. CLAIR THUNES, PhD
An Experienced Equestrian and Horse Owner
Dr. Thunes grew up in England riding various disciplines including eventing, show jumping, dressage, gymkhana, trail, fox hunting, and polo. In college, she competed on the university polo team for both Edinburgh University and the University of California, Davis as well as riding upper level dressage horses for a local FEI trainer. Her horse training experience also extends to green horses including her own BLM mustang which she trained and competed in dressage and eventing. Today she is happy riding dressage and the desert trails in Arizona as well as watching her daughter compete on her own pony in local events.
